Tangalle ASP guilty of assaulting Hambantota protester transferred

The National Police Commission has reported that The Assistant Superintendent of Police Thushara Daluwatte, who assaulted an arrested protester during the Hambantota protests, has been transferred to the Matara Police Division with immediate effect. 

A video clip emerged following the Hambantota protests of ASP Daluwatte assaulting an apprehended protester which was viewed as a violation of fundamental rights.
 
The incident sparked investigations by the national Police Commission and the SLHRC. 
 
Following an inquiry, the Police Commission made the transfer.
