No political prisoners are under dentition in Sri Lanka at present, but LTTE terrorists who are alleged of serious war crimes are, says leader of Piwithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Udaya Gammanpila.
He made this statement while addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today (16).
“Northern PC member M.K Sivajilingam is holding protests demanding the release of ‘Tamil political prisoners’ during the President official visit to Jaffna. There are no political prisoners under detention in Sri Lanka at present. These are a set of LTTE terrorists who were alleged of offensive war crimes including serial massacres and fatal terrorist acts although they appear to be ‘Tamil Political prisoners’ to Sivajilingam and Wigneshwaran.” Gammanpila said.
Gammanpila alleged The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to be double standard.
“There is no political party in the world which is double-standardized as the TNA. From one side they are holding protests demanding the release of LTTE terrorists. From the other side they are protesting to produce our war heroes to courts making false allegations about war crimes” he added.
A court order was issued by the Jaffna Magistrate, banning protests in Jaffna during President Maithreepala Sirisena’s official visit to Jaffna on October14.
The court order was issued by Jaffna Magistrate S. Sadeeshkaran upon a request made by Jaffna Police.
Court has also issued orders to Northern Provincial Council member M.K Sivajilingam, Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) party leader Suresh Premachandran,All Ceylon Tamil Congress(ACTC) leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam not to attend the protest.
However, a protest is was led by Northern PC member M.K Sivajilingam, despite the court order, off Jaffa Hindu College, demanding the release of political prisoners during President’s visit to Jaffna.
