The fuel tanker ‘Neveska Lady’ with a consignment of 40,000 metric tonnes of petrol has docked at the Muthurajawela buoy a short while ago. Authorities have commenced sample testing and will begin the distribution of fuel within the course of the day (9).

The ship, which is arriving from Dubai, was expected to dock at the Muthurajawela buoy after midnight, where it will commence the transfer of fuel.

Officials confirmed that before reaching the buoy, tests will be carried out to determine the standard of the fuel and laboratory technicians are preparing to leave for the ship to carry out the tests.

The Petroleum Ministry said that all preparations have been made to distribute the petrol to filling stations across the country as soon as possible.

The tanker is carrying 31,000 metric tonnes of 90 octane petrol and 7,000 metric tonnes of 95 octane petrol.

Meanwhile another oil tanker arriving from India is expected to reach the country today (9).
