Customs officers attached to the Cargo Examination Directorate today apprehended an illegally imported consignment of the Glyphosate, the herbicide which has been banned in Sri Lanka over fears it can cause cancer.

The 20 foot container is to be opened and examined at 10.30 tomorrow (17) at the Rank Container Terminal (RCT) in Orugodawatta, the customs spokesman said.

Further details such as the importer and quantity of the herbicide have not been disclosed yet.
