It was announced that the Supreme Court will hear the Human Rights violation case filed against Tangalle ASP Thushara Daluwatte by Susantha Karunaratne who was assaulted during the Hambantota protests.

The Supreme Court stated that the petition filed by Susantha Karunaratne will be debated on after careful consideration.

Accordingly the Supreme court has issued notice to ASP Thushara Daluwatte, IGP Pujith Jayasundara six other officials to submit evidence on the case.

The Matara and Tangalle general hospitals have been requested to submit medical reports on the treatment provided to the assaulted person.

A protest was organized by members of the Joint Opposition on October 06 including MP Namal Rajapaksa, against the agreement to handover operations of the Hambantota port and Mattala airport to two foreign companies during which a video clip emerged of ASP Thushara Daluwatte assaulting an individual while he was being detained.

Following the incident several human rights groups and the National Police Commission launched investigations into the incident.
