8 Indian fishermen detained by SL Navy

Naval personnel onboard Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command on routine patrol apprehended 08 Indian fishermen along with 02 fishing trawlers for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters northeast of Kachchatheevu and west of Delft island yesterday (18). 

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai and subsequently handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for legal action. The seized trawlers and fishing gear were retained at SLNS Elara in Karainagar.
