The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) stated that a proposal to revamp the current system of care rendered to orphaned children, to the ‘Foster Care’ system was made by officials of the NCPA.
The NCPA stated that the Foster Care system will provide orphans with the opportunity of growing up within the care of a family rather than that of a orphanage.
It was further stated that the system of servicing orphanages is an outdated concept that was initially introduced to Sri Lanka during the colonial period. Accordingly the NCPA has taken the initiative to find alternate methods of childcare.
The NCPA stated that a revamped system of childcare will be introduced in the near future to provide better and more holistic childcare to the orphans of Sri Lanka.
