JO to request inquiry into state debt from speaker

MP Bandula Gunawardene stated that the Joint Opposition will make a request from the Speaker of parliament to appoint an unbiased selection committee to investigate the current government debt. 

The Joint Opposition stated that the selection committee should be chaired by the President of the State Accountants Council and a member of the Joint Opposition. 

He further stated that a formal requested signed by all the members of the joint opposition will be submitted to the speaker before the end of the year. 

The joint Opposition stated that an inquiry needs to be launched to investigate the true sum of state debt following the approval of the Budget proposals for the next fiscal year.
