North-East monsoon may establish in next few days – Met Dept

The North-east monsoon may establish itself in the next few days over the country. Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 pm.
Fairly heavy falls (about 75mm) can be expected at some places particularly in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly strong gusty winds (up to 50kmph) can be expected in the Northern, North central and Central provinces.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, North-western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
