April 25, 2026

The first phase of the Maradana Railway Station modernisation project has been successfully completed, the Ministry for Transport stated. As part of the “Dream Destination” initiative—an effort to modernise one hundred railway stations under the Clean Sri Lanka national programme—renovation work at the Maradana Railway Station commenced approximately seven months ago. The initial planning and implementation of the project were undertaken through collaborative efforts involving the Clean Sri Lanka national programme, the Sri Lanka Railways Department, NIO Engineering, private sector stakeholders and various civil society organisations, all working collectively to ensure the successful execution of the initiative.
