Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed officials to prepare a proposal, on a ministry level, to resolve the issues related to salaries in the teaching service.

He has further instructed to take into consideration the opinions of the trade unions and many other parties when preparing the said proposal.

The Minister has stated that disparities and arrears in the salaries of teachers have arisen due to certain measures taken in past years without following a proper methodology.

Accordingly, preparing a proposal to solve the issues related to salaries of teachers in a manner that would uphold their professional dignity is a timely need, the Minister emphasized.

Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam made these comments at a discussion held at the Ministry of Education with the trade unions members and the officials of the ministry.
