Showery condition expected in several provinces

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph can be expected in North-central and Uva provinces and in Hambanthota districts, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy falls of about 75 mm can be expected at some places in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and also in Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts.

Several spells of showers will occur in North-western province and in Hambantota district.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle, the Department of Meteorology stated.

Winds will be south-westerly in the direction of the sea area around the island. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

The sea area extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60-65 kmph at times.

The wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea area extending from Mannar to Kankasanturai.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
