Guaranteed price for rice from next year

October 16, 2018   01:01 pm

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to impose a guaranteed price on rice from next year.

The decision has been taken with the intention of maintaining a stable price for rice in the domestic market.

However, the owners of rice mills have agreed to reduce the current market price of rice by Rs 10, stated the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera.

Meanwhile, the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has planned to issue rice varieties to the domestic market under the brand name ‘PMB’.

Accordingly, the ‘PMB’ rice varieties will be merchandised through Sathosa and other supermarkets under the 5kg and 10kg quantities, the Ministry of Agriculture stated.
