Special discussion on releasing army-controlled land in Jaffna

A special discussion, chaired by the Jaffna District Secretary Nagalingam Vedanayagam, has been held regarding the release of the land used by the Jaffna security forces back to their rightful owners.
The discussion, held at the Jaffna District Secretariat yesterday (16), had focused on releasing the land controlled by the Jaffna security forces as per the orders received to release the relevant lands before December 31, according to the officials.
Reportedly, Jaffna District MPs Mavai Senathirajah, Vijayakala Maheswaran and M.A. Sumanthiran, Commander of Security Forces in Jaffna Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, and Navy and Air Force chiefs had participated in the discussion.
President Maithripala Sirisena, during his recent visit in Jaffna, has told that the lands that are currently in possession of Jaffna Security Forces should be given back to the original occupants.
Responding to queries regarding this, MP Vijayakala Maheswaran stated that the lands in the custody of Jaffna Security Forces are to be released before December 31, in accordance with the order given by the President while in Jaffna.
The residents in Jaffna area stated that the incumbent government was brought to power with the intention of getting their lands released and that the government should fulfil the given promises.
The government sector officials had also joined the discussion held yesterday.
