Three arrested for defrauding Rs 3 million by selling fake gold

Three suspects have been arrested in Meegahathenna area, Pelawatte in connection with defrauding Rs 3 million by selling several metal balls painted in gold as actual gold.

Officers of the Kalutara Division Crimes Investigation Unit have made the arrest following a tip-off received by the Kalutara Police Special Bureau.

The police have seized a piece of gold weighing up to 326 mg, a cheque for Rs 3 million, 448 small gold-coloured balls, a car and a machete knife in possession of the suspects.

The suspects, who have been residing in Baddegama and Kirama areas, are to be produced before the Matugama Magistrate’s Court.
