Children should learn importance of protecting environment and negative effects of drug addiction through school - President

President Maithripala Sirisena says the children should be apprised regarding the importance of preserving the environment and the negative effects of the drug addiction in addition to teaching them the school syllabus, through the school education.
He made these remarks participating in the Diploma Awarding ceremony of the Pulathisipura National College of Education held on Friday (19).
During this event, President Sirisena said that every country in the world faces the environmental challenges and illegal drug menace and explained the importance of joining hands by all from school children to highest level to free our society from this tragic situation.
Furthermore, the President said the new diploma holders that the teachers should pay special attention regarding their security in a similar manner that enhance their knowledge.
The Pulathisipura National College of Education was established with the assistance of President Maithripala Sirisena, when he was the Minister of Mahaweli in 1998.
The President also laid the foundation stone to build a new hostel, as a solution for the lack of hostel facilities at the National College of Education. The proposed hostel will be built under the Pibidemu Polonnaruwa district development project at a cost of Rs.165 million.
