Speaker’s behavior led to President’s special statement – Samarasinghe

The main reason for President Maithripala Sirisena making a special statement was the behavior of the former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, says Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe.

He stated this addressing a press conference held this morning (12).

The President also noted this reason in his special statement last night (11), Minister Samarasinghe further said.

Minister stated that the manner in which Speaker Karu Jayasuriya behaved by issuing various press releases is unacceptable and unconstitutional, and that he acted like a Minister of Foreign Affairs which is untoward for his position as the Speaker.

The President had to issue a special statement as such since Jayasuriya kept issuing more statements on President’s decision, when the President was being patient with him in the first few occasions, Minister Samarasinghe further stated.
