Former Prime Minister issuing a statement says that, today, the country finds itself in an extremely unfortunate and critical situation and that it must be decided now whether to stand for the protection of democracy, the protection of the supreme law of the land, and the defense of justice.

His statement reads that, he had to face many challenges in the recent past and that he faced all slander, slander and criticism with patience, restraint and discipline.

He stated that this is not a matter of who will be the President, who will be the Prime Minister, who will be the cabinet minister or run the government, but, is a matter of whether or not to protect democracy.

Responding to the special statement issued by President Maithripala Sirisena on Sunday (11), Wickremesinghe says that it is the President who knows the prices quoted for the MPs.

“We will not allow the precious freedoms that we have fought hard to secure to be stolen from us. I promise you that we who value our democracy will work together to save our nation from this unprecedented crisis”, further read the statement.
