Special party leaders’ meeting commences at Parliament

UPDATE (9.28 am): The Party Leaders’ meeting has concluded a short while ago, stated Office of the Speaker.
Accordingly, the parliamentary agenda of the day will be decided in the Chamber.
The special party leaders’ meeting convened under the patronage of the Speaker at the Parliament Complex, a short while ago.
The Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya had called for a party leaders’ meeting this morning (14) to be held at 8.30 a.m.
Meanwhile, issuing a press release, the Speaker’s Office had informed that the Parliament will reconvene at 10.00 a.m. this morning (14).
The Speaker’s Office stated that the Parliament will meet today in terms of the Gazette Notification No. 2095/50 issued by President Maithripala Sirisena on November 04.
“The Speaker requests all Members of Parliament to attend the Parliament sessions,” the statement said.
The Supreme Court yesterday issued an interim order temporarily suspending the Gazette Notification issued by the President dissolving the Parliament.
Accordingly, the new Parliamentary session is scheduled to commence today.
