There is a chance that provincial council elections will be held before the presidential elections, stated MP Mahinda Amaraweera.

The General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) mentioned this addressing a public meeting in Sooriyawewa.

President Maithripala Sirisena, much like former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, did not abolish the Executive Presidency despite them saying they would, pointed out Amaraweera.

The President who will be elected in a future election, too, will not abolish the executive presidency, he said.

Speaking on upcoming elections, the parliamentarian said that there is a possibility that the provincial council elections will be held before the presidential elections.
