General Fonseka to be the opposition common candidate?

General Fonseka to be the opposition common candidate?

General Sarath Fonseka who returned to the island a few days ago is tipped to be the common candidate of the Opposition Alliance for a future Presidential poll, sources from the newly formed United National Front say.

When contacted, Democratic People’s Front (DPF) leader Mano Ganeshan said the name of the candidate will be revealed by Friday. Mr. Ganeshan who earlier opposed General Fonseka’s entry as the common candidate and threatened to withdraw, later changed his stance claiming that a representative from General Fonseka had met him and discussed several issues and that now he was for the General.

He is war hero, every one agree. But we cant think he as a political leader. Politicians are in a not patriot to mother land most of times during past. What a shame?. Last war period Ranil and Mangala said Sarath Fonseka good for salvation army. And past Ranil proposed to Mahinda, Sarath F removed from army coommander and recruit talent person. We have to think about SL political situation again. Why Sarath F joining to UNF. We feel because of many facilities and money who can get while in prasident level. Not other than that. We remember Ranil signed peace agreement with LTTE and every one sufferd lots included Sarath F. What is the qulification for Presidental candidate?. What confidence Srath F have to joint with UNP and Tamil parties. We have to dicide. May be everyone think President post can get good benifits and facilities. But we feel if he joint with this party he will loss his hero medal also. We can see what others saying in political meetings about him. Let see

When he was a Commander of the Army, Mangala told tht nt suitable to command the Salvation Army even. Nw he became an OCC. Who is the man let General to stand him on his leg? this is the political joke. Will Gen Fonseka eat this old foods? People should understand the situation and elect the new president who has more capability to manage everything & can choose right person into right positions. Gen is nt the man who finish this endless war. He only commanded the Army. There were lots of generals who had the capability to finish that but they did not have political back up to finished tht. Sinhalese should not forget the history to suffer again.

Sir,we thought after the war which was won with huge sacrifices, this country will go forward towards its development. But we were proved wrong by the way the government is conducting its affairs. Ministers using their political powers take drug lords to the air port to flee the country. No remedy at site when look at the health sector. We have a doubt even to go to Osu Sala to purchase drugs imported by the health ministry. Education in shamble. Elections are full of violence and intimidation initiated by the politicians. With all that people on the top preached discipline and transparency in governce Can we tolerate all these and vote for this government, no. Sir please come forward and save this country as you defeated the LTTE which was branded as invincible some time back.

This is what all people were waiting for. Common candidate with no party affiliation would be the best for this country as one could expect equality and fairness to all. He is a man of discipline, firm and straight forward. Properly speaking he is “no nonsense” man. You can be rest assure that there will be no robbing, cheating, looting or as we commonly say no “Matiya”. He will see that every cent of public money would be spent nothing but on public and for their welfare. The huge cabinet and non cabinet will size down to minimum and will hold them accountable to public on any blunders they make unlike now where they can skip through giving some excuse to king. There are solders in all forces waiting their compensation for years but king and his golaya’s are playing hell with state money. We need good discipline and strong effective administration for this country to run smoothly and to look forward for a better tomorrow for the generation yet to come.

November 7, 2009  11:35 am

Although still this news is a result of many speculations going on these days, I can tell one thing very clearly. If General Fonseka jumps in to the political arena challenging the current president who spearheaded the overall campaign to wipe out the LTTE terrorism and most importantly if the General is coming with the support of all enemies who worked day and night to destroy this country, General Fonseka is going to spoil his own good name and heading towards his own downfall from a war hero to a title of the opposite of "hero". Although people should be ambitious to climb up in their life taking up bigger responsibilities and holding higher positions, too much ambitious is also not good for a good person and specially such a hero must never ally with the enemies in order to fulfill his ambitions. We can see the enemies like Mano Ganeshan is reversing their earlier stand towards the general, only to give way for the enemy agenda to create political chaos among the patriotic people of this country by accepting General as the common candidate in a short term strategy. The whole bunch of enemies will make the General a prisoner under their grip and make him a puppet who will have no way out but to surrender not only himself, but also our whole country and nation to the enemies. General should not fall in to the level of Mangala Samaraweera who is acting with utter personal vengeance against the president.

This may not be a good decision. War victory was a collective effort. They all should go as a group together, not against to each other for the betterment of the country. even he become as a president as a common candidate, he has to work with UNP corrupted politicians which is not easy again.

As Sri Lankan´s we all hope for a good future for everyone. It could be Sarath Fonseka who will be the chosen one, But who ever who comes in should not be power hungry and think our motherland is there fore fathers property. We as sri lankan´s could only pray for a good future for the next generation as the war is over and the most important thing is economic stability for all citizens for a better future. The current regime had done a good job until AUTHORITY over all became there agenda. As democracy has failed once again we sri lankans have to supplicate to all new election gundu´s forcibily or not..

I believe this is a good move. We need to get rid of nepotism, corruption, abuse of power, murder and intimidation from this country. MR does not want believe that he is governing this country in a wrong way. It is like a cancer growing in this country from the top to bottom. We need to shed our differences and elect a non-political leader who will put this country on the correct path. As a minority i did not support his views on the minority communities. BUt he can always correct himself by governing this country in a just manner and that all of us sometimes make very stupid comments!i hope he will reduce the power of the president as promised by the opposition alliance and then come to parliament as a PM to rule with collective responsibility just like he gave leadership to the forces while the soldiers on the ground did the real fighting.

Dear Sir, I think that entering in to politics will make your reputation & good name eroded. We know that you are hard as a nail but sir please don’t enter in to the mud pit of politics. We love you and we honor you a lot. When the mud sling started what people can do or how far they can hold the respect on you? Dear Sir, I think that you are in a trap set by some western agents like CIA. We saw how Lucky Algama & Janaka Perera ended up their politics. We can’t let it happen to you. I’m requesting all of Ada Derana readers to read following link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Manekshaw. He was a legend not only in Indian military history but also in Asian history too. We know how your dedication was on the 4th Elam war. If someone wants to treat you sidelined let them do. Time will treat then in correct manner. We love you we respect you a lot but the all others who helped in military, political; Civil & administration fields to defeat LTTE are in a sacred place of our hearts. I’m wondering that how can you sit together with Millennium city traitors & LTTE front runners like Ganeshan?

That why Prabhakaran said Srilankans ignore everything after two weeks. But careful UNP is a one of party who destroy our country after 1977. And UNF leaders are greedy with power. Clearly UNP is consists of bunch of losers like Ranil, Mangala, Mano ganeshan and Kirialla. They all openly criticized Gen Fonseka and I don’t see any reason why they choose the same man to be the common candidate, unless there is some deep hidden move. Also I do not think even for a second that Gen. Fonseka would be that stupid to get in to that trap. Don’t forget that Gen. Fonseka is one hell of a man who managed to trick Prabakan, who was known to be most clever terrorist in the world, that time. How could an idiot like Ranil put him down? We need a clever leader like Gen Fonseka to lead this country, who can stop corruption and malpractices. YES Gen Fonseka is the best shot we have to defeat MR who is spreading corruption and making a family own company with SL assets. But coming to an election from UNP is not acceptable at all this time. I hope he would consider that. BUT if he still comes to Presidential election, I WILL VOTE for him!!!!!

My view is that Genearal Fonseka should not go into dirty party politics in Sri Lanka. If he actually desires to render service to country he can appear as an indipendent candidate with pannel of intelectuals comprising of various fields. Most of people in the opposition Alliance are dirty .( most of governments ministers/Mp are also dirty). In this situation he can´t obviously do the desired service to the country. What will happen is only tarnishing of his good name.

This is a phenomenal comedy if true. We have many war heroes in the public opinion that will show their true capabilities shortly. Are these people Heroes or Hyenas who pushed others to deliver victory for their personal gain. Why they take popularity for granted? The moment they show their true face, those who support them will tell them where to get off. If SF decides to compete in presidential elections, he should be defeated to ensure that vast majority of our people are not that stupid to blindly and unconditionally support anybody. They have already shown their capabilities to MR. But we should let MR to win the election not because of any love, but for him to show his true treacherous face by showing what his solutions are that he postponed. I am sure none of these individuals will be part of our history because none of them deserve it. A war fought by young Sinhala children who sacrificed their lives in the name of their people should never be used for anybody’s personal gain. By forcing these valiant fighters to uselessly walk into deaths under indirect fire and holding guns to those who deserted due to poor leadership, we do not produce heroic army commanders. According to very public opinion of these political and military geniuses, Tamil terrorists were defeated by those front line fighters who had their own ground level leadership. Those who put unjust conditions purely based on political interests to restrict the front line fighters neither are heroic political leaders. Those who let their position go to their heads like many past presidents and generals, these people should realise soon that what they are worth in no uncertain terms. What can SF, MR or RW do other than doing what the others tried and failed? None of these people have the capacity or means to solve any of our problems or the systemic changes that are required. Are we asking this general to hold guns to back of our heads to force us to develop the country? If this story is realised, these heroes are going to become a shame to those front line fighters who died and injured. When a tree dies every part of that tree has to die. Now we are witnessing the disintegration of the security forces, the backbone of this horrible government that protected and stood behind all these political scum to do their misdeeds with impunity. The day these children of underprivileged Sinhala parents making up the bulk of the front line positions in these security and police institutions realise that they have been supporting their worst enemies for this long and change allegiance in favour of true Sinhala leaders who can deliver what they really deserve, these self-appointed heroes and back-door entrants to privileged positions will have to run for their dear lives.

Very interesting to read the comments of the usal apologists for MR who earlier dismissed this story as a rumour spread by the UNP. The phobia they suffer now, knowing MR´s days are numbered is understandable. This is mainly because MR went on kicking the ladders that helped him to climb to power. First Mangala, Sripathi, Tiran and lastly SF. This is the price MR has to pay for his ingratitude.

lot of people in this forum remember what Mangala, ranil and kiriella told about Sarath Fonseka. They are probably too younger to remember that it was MR who was the traitor in the 80´s when he went to Geneva to campaign against his so called "motherland" asking other countries to impose sanctions against the country for human rights violations while fighting the brutal JVP. He was found trying to smuggle picturs of dead people abroad.Suddenly MR loves this country more than anyone else.

General does not his own political party to support him as a political leader. He is a good experienced soldier but, not an experienced politician. Coming to politics on enemies´ shoulders and expecting the enemies to teach him politics and expecting enemies to protect him, is not a way for a true war hero. When he ally with the enemies, naturally the patriotic people who once loved him, will desert him, leaving him to seek more & more protection and support from the very enemies the country and himself once fought with just a few months ago. Not only this will end up in a disaster for him but also for the the country. The enemies & traitors will make him a joker and destroy his respect and the dignity, reducing him from a hero to the zero. I will rather vote for Mahinda Rajapaksha for his continuous and unchanged dedication to bring peace & prosperity to our country and wherever necessary criticize him and fight him, only to push him to keep on the right track, but by now Mahinda Rajapaksha has proved that he will never be a prey to the enemies and he will never betray this country to the enemies. It is all of our duty to support such a dedicated and unchanged leader, leaving behind others, as we cannot support any other leader who defected from the patriotic camp to the enemy camp and allied with the enemies. But I also have a last suggestion to keep the General as a hero forever in our hearts. The government / President should offer him a suitable post, such as the Defense minister portfolio, within the new government that would be formed in April next year and the General should consider it as a worthy offer.

The alliance consits of a bunch of spinless lame ducks/crooks who has lost credibility and requires divine intervention to bring them back to life! They see a ray of hope through you and unfortunatly you have lost your mind.Think clearly and don´t let this rat pack take advantage. Let me also tell you, you a lone did not win this war it was a team effort which consits of three other commanders, the brave solders and most important the political leadership. You will agree some of the so called leaders in the alliance when they were in power did not do nothing to take charge of the situation, but almost sold the country to the Tigers, We will not Forget. It is still premature to determine if SF will join the UNP. It is true that the UNP had said many things detrimental to his leadership during the war. Having said that if he decides to still work with the UNP, surely he must have weigh the statements made by then and the treatment mated to him by the the present regime and most importantly the capabilities of the two parties with regard to building the economy of the country.

Many says to Gen SF dont join to dirty politics, Politics and politicians are dirty in SL, so I say that is the main reason we need pure person like Gen SF to stop corruption and all dirty things. Again I have huge respect to MR but whatever I stand with Gen SF, he is my true hero, its not mean MR or other miltery commanders are not heros, yes they are all but Gen SF is number one from all of them. Gen SF has prooven he can dovete his self 100% to motherland. Sir whatever your decisison we are with you. Anyway I think MR have another 2 years so by that 2 years he can do so much and stop corruption, make law and order in police, health, education and all other areas then Gen SF will step over becuase there are nothing left to do for him, I think MR must build the contry 2 years is most than enough because as long as we have no war. If MR call presidencial election now it means he have no plan to build the contry and he just want make sure his power for nother 6 years from now than it get too late, why he need to loose 2 years if he really going to do well? That makes me very very doubt about MR, I ask people to dont be bilnd, dont sleep at day light thats all

Sri Lanka has the guidance of the Divine Powers. General Sarath Fonseka is ´The Saviour´ that could save Sri Lanka from the corrupt Rajapakses. General Fonseka is absolutely HONEST and possess the bravery and the courage to face all obstacles and take control of the country.General Fonseka must win the Presidential Election and punish each and every one who had resorted to corruption, thuggery, murder and mayhem since the Rajapakse Regime came into power. After conducting the General Elections he must entrust the governance to a set of honest parliamentarians under his close supervision.General Fonseka should treat all Sri Lankans impatially so long they are law abiding.I am sure all Sri Lankans will give their unstinted support to General Sarath Fonseka.

November 7, 2009  07:01 pm

Friends, this is a breaking news. I have got a very reliable information from a source close to Ranil, that this whole thing around General Fonseka is a well planned dangerous setup designed by some two foreign powers ( naturally they must be Norway and UK) to create a stage in our country where the General and the UPFA government led by Mahinda Rajapaksha would be forced to clash each other politically, thus creating opportunities to take out all the war secretes from both sides against each other. They also have plans to use many tricks to intensify the situation between the General and the government. Finally, these secrets will be used as evidence and sources to bring up charges against them ( both General & Mahinda Rajapaksha + Gota). As per Ranil, this is a plan that will kill three birds (namely the president, Gota and the General) from one stone using the General. He (Ranil) believes that he can easily tackle the General and put him in a political trap in the end, but Ranil has told that the major challenge they had was defeating Mahinda and he has got instructions from western countries to compromise anything to achieve that major target. This is why Ranil has declared today that if all other parties in their alliance consent, Ranil will welcome the General as the common candidate. Again this is only a coward strategy to lure the General to walk in to the trap. Western countries have understood that currently there is only one person in Sri Lanka who they think could at least challenge the present president and that is the General and they want to use that opportunity at any cost. Ranil is only obeying the Norway´s and UK´s instructions. This is the truth behind this whole thing. Think seriously. The best way out of this bloody trap is for the people to keep the General as a war hero without pushing him to the trap.

If Gen.SF is contesting for the next presidential election on his own accord, it is OK! But it is very clear now that there is a conspiracy behind this rumour, by our impotent oppositin party leaders to grab the power at any cost using Gen. SF as a Trojan Horse. They can never come to power contesting their own party men. Dear Gen. SF, please do not get into this dirty political trap.

High Time we had some one who will lead us from this anarchy. The country is in a total mess. The politicians are getting richer by the day. There is no proper law. Corruption is rampant. I wish there will be a change in government and bring all the culprits to book. If found guilty all their assets should be confiscated and they should serve a jail term. The whole family should be disgraced. Only then will all come to their scenses and we can see a bright future for all our children. Children who will want to stay and work for their motherland. And we can see a prosperous Sri Lanka in the likes of Malaysia and Singapore. Jaya weva

Many supported Rajapaksa govt during war overlooking corruption, nepotism, human rights violations, thuggary and intimidations. You can be a good leader for the country as long as you are READY to accept criticism and willing to make compromises with others of different views in a democratic setting. These are two pillars of a democracy. I believe many opportunistic politicians a.k.a. cardboard heroes talk against you. But, if it was not for you we would never have won this war. If politicians can win wars then most technologically advanced and powerful political hierarchy in the world, America would have won all the wars they fought. Now to have a long lasting praise as a good leader please never bring your family into high offices and always think the people of Sri Lanka and this time work for the people the way you did during the war. Please have not only opportunistic politicians but the advice of independent intellectuals when making decisions for the country. We had a dictatorial govt with unprecedented corruption and nepotism. Now, the war was over we have to move on with a peaceful Sri Lanka without corruption and nepotism. People still praise JRJ over all other presidents only for one thing that was he never uplifted his family and relatives for high posts without peoples consent. Sri Lanka, please wake up for a new dawn and please vote for this selfless patriot of our motherland. Wish you all the best General!

This is what I think. There is no way the UNP will this election. When Gen. Fonseka comes to the political area, no doubt that most people would vote for him. As we all know most of the "patriotic" voters are with the GOSL. most of among the "patriotic" voters will cast their vote for Gen. Fonseka. If we analyze this scenario closely, only thing that is going to happen is that this election will "equalize" the strength of Gen. Fonseka and President MR. While in the meantime, UNP will take the maximum use of that. they will get their normal votes and i´m sure it will be more than MR or Gen.Fonseka. *another fact is that Gen. Fonseka is still in the office as the chief of defense staff. As long as he serves in the position, he cannot run for the presidency nor send nominations. even if Gen. Fonseka resigns from the that post, will MR accept his resignation letter. keep in mind that nominations will be ended in this December. What if MR calls for nominations before Gen.Fonseka resigns? another victory for MR.

All sri lankans believed that Gen Fonseka was the real hero in defeating the terrorism in the cuontry. The wonder we see is how he sits with Mr. Ranil Wikkramasingha who made every possible efforts to tarnish the image of Gen Fonseka. In Mr.Wikkramasingha´s point of view Gen Fonseka is a commander who does not know where Barron´s Cap (Thoppigala) is situated in Sri Lanka. If this is the case,I do not believe that Mr. Wikkramasingha would think that Gen Fonseka is good to rule the country. Furher, Gen Fonseka is rightly aware what Mano Ganeshan who is a member of UNP coaliation was doing to defeat the war against terrorism.Under these very clear facts,If Gen Fonseka is going to be the common leader of UNP coaliation he will never be a war hero of this country. He is just a paid soldier who lead the war because of the position he was bearing at that time.

In our opinion, Sri Lanka need a leader who is highly discipline, honest, trustworthy, firm straight forward and who has no bonding with any party or whichever the government in power so that they all can look-up to him whether its SLFP coalition or UNP coalition doesn’t matter. Therefore what we must realize that, not to demoralize the genuine efforts of any party leader or politico and their thinking. Just look back to see what MR has done since became a MP in early 70”s and it reveals practically nothing other than eating-up the taxpayers money. Thereafter if you look at during Chandrica’s regime he hasn’t done anything ether. When he was the Labour minister, just marked the time, only the noise he made but no results. When he was in Fisheries the only thing he did was made a quick buck but nothing lasting or for the benefit of the industry. His journey from PM to President was a just a cake walk for him and the only thing he could boast is the war for which there are many to share. The fact is MR too had some indirect dialogs with Tiger leadership behind all our back in order to run his tenure smoothly as President. The guys who threatened to disclose these things were finally eliminated somehow leaving behind mastery and thus eased the headache of MR for good. In this country, we need somebody who would eradicate corruption, wastages, and malpractices. If you just imagine the amount of loans, aids, grants we receive and also the foreign exchange from foreign employment that comes in, but yet, we don’t see any sign of coming out of our deaths. So, we are lost to understand as to what it is or due to what..? All what we could find is that from top to bottom is robbing, looting this country from left to right. If we want to put a stop to these and to see all moneys goes to the welfare of this nation, then we need a genuine, strong, honest, straight forward leadership with “No Nonsense” and in this respect the only person we could think and also who is fit for the job is none other than General Sarath Fonseaka on whom we all Sri Lankan’s can rally around as well as we could place our hundred percent confidence without any hesitation whatsoever. Furthermore, we shouldn’t get carried away by the things told by someone at some point because it is said to be that there are nether lasting friends nor enemies in politics and true to the word we see the guys who spoke against MR are his buddy’s of today while who spoke ill of Ranil are with him in the same flock to gather. Therefore let me tell you the talks like “Salvation Army” or whatever that is said to be had told is irrelevant in the context of Sri Lanka policies of today. May God bless you all.

What is this “… getting back on to the right track” thing that SF and a few commentators call for? Are they talking of a derailed train like thing or about a kind of off-road vehicle? The truth is our country is a wreck in every sense and rotting from inside no matter who among them tries to fix it. How can they fix it as they were the very people who contributed to wreck it over the years? Do they have miraculous powers that they held behind their backs all these years while holding the highest positions of the government system? If SF thinks he can fix it, it is a pipedream. To fight the war with unforgivable and horrible mistakes on the part of the top military leadership and SF leading to the waste of many lives of our REAL WAR HEROES who fought this war that were hidden from public eye, there were others who gave every possible support including money, men, materials, tools and knowledge that helped to get rid of this tiger menace still posing a grave threat to our existence while these fools are making a mockery of that victory. Every bit used for fighting the war was imported. Why this General, acclaimed war-victor and the man-to-fix-it type, who was a so-called distinguished officer in the military for many years could not contribute even a little bit to use our own resources to manufacture unique weapons in our own country saving a lot of money and lives? Why did they even ignored the offers made by the best of the best military industrialists in the world to do it for them, which could have saved many precious treasures of our country. It is immaturity and stupidity to think that any of these politicians or generals can fix our country. Are they going to do it by just printing money or by borrowings? Why they do not tell what they got to offer before seeking power? Do they have another silly JVP Chinthana? His true colour will be shown the day he joins the worst of political scum that have brought us to this level. Their masters in the West are in doldrums. So where do they find the way to fix except sharing the fate of their western masters who have no idea of doing anything, but disappearing into oblivion? It is time to dismantle and send all these idiots who make up this pseudo-independent English-built political, military and administrative web of deceitful humbugs to hell. Only those who understand the real problems and the native aspirations can deliver what matters to our people. By doing your kind of acrobatics, you are all showing your true colours and pleading for your own demise that is in fact overdue.

As Mr PRIYANTHA WATUDURA said, this must be a conspiracy to topple this Govt!but i don´t think that Mr Sarath Fonseka is going to do such a foolish thing against the will of our nation!Do you think that Mr Fonseka is allowed to run this country by the so called Grand Traitors Alliance if he becomes a president?I say no!Or,if he becomes a common candidate for the said Alliance, how can he face to his fellow soldiers who sacrificed their lives?Don´t they spit in his face?Yes they do it definitely!Mr Fonseka knows very well that he has to bear the disastrous consequences of his wrong decision, and therefore i do not believe that Mr Fonseka finally becomes a traitor to our country! We all know that the whole country respect these three,General,MR & Gota as heroes if so why do we want to act against this administration?MR is the only leader who saved our country from the brutal terrorism & he is the one who strengthened our backbone & our future prospects! Finally i´am humbly requesting from the patriotic people not to misunderstand our heroes,General,MR & Gota, they´re the backbone of the country! Please do remember if we lose our president MR,we never get such a brave president in our life time!Let him continue his presidency for the sake of our motherlanka!Don´t put him into the hands of conspirators!Think wisely before you take your decision! This is Ranil´s " political suicide "

Dear Gen. Sarath Fonseka; I hope you do read the feedback from Ada Derana readers all over the world. I normally give my response very quickly to the "important" news articles; but this time I waited and waited in utter disappointment. Finally, I made up my mind to write to you. You are my hero - hero of the highest calibre - alongwith the President and Mr Gothabaya Rajapakse. Please do not tarnish your name by trying to become a politician. At the present time, Mahinda Rajapakse is the best person to save the country from all the other dangers. You did what you had to do to save the country; you do not need to do anything else. We, the Sri Lankan nation, are in debt to you FOR EVER. But, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO POLITICS. This is a well-thoughtout trap by the pro-LTTE + UNP gang to topple the government so that they can destroy both you and the other good heroes of the nation. I am sure Ranil and the rest of the LTTE - supporting Western countries may have cooked the plot to kill you and then put the blame to the government, as they did many times in the past. WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO LOSE YOU. PLEASE STAY OUT OF POLITICS! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE AMERICANS, NORWEGIANS, MILLIBAND AND HIS FRIENDS AND ALL OTHER LTTE SUPPORTERS WANT. As a very tactical person, you MUST NOT get into politics. You can do a lot more just by being alive and supporting The President Rajapakse. I AM PLEADING AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO POLITICS! It is no place for a great General like you. Lastly, I am always ready to give my life for you, but if you go for presidency against Mahinda, I can not vote for you, simply because it is wrong; Right now, we must rally in support of President Rajapakse; and that is the only way to firm-up the great freedom you won for us. If you support UNP or any other jackal, it will be a case of "GAMEKEEPER BECOMING THE PORCHER". With greatest regards - Viduruwan.

It is hard to predict what will happen in Sri Lankan politics in the next few weeks. While the UNP is making an effort to build up its lost patriotic image through SF, the government is highly worried that it might loose its monopoly over patriotism, which it successfully marketed until now. As a result of the war victory, MR´s popularity reached a peak during the provincial council elections, but that popularity has come under threat due to the media exposure of the massive corruption and thuggery taking place under the govt. In that case, a section of the independent voters are looking for an alternate candidate, but I am not sure if SF is the best overall choice for that. However, when looking at it from a strict patriotism centered perspective, SF would be the best candidate to speak to the mass Sinhala patriotic consciousness and thereby challenge the patriotic voter base of MR. In the case of SF, there is a great likelihood that he would take measures to minimize corruption, similar to what he did in the army. Yet, people don´t decide who to vote for, by that criteria alone. At the same time, it would be foolish to think that MR is invincible.

November 8, 2009  09:31 am

MR started political career way back in early seventees as a youngest parlimentarian and step by step he climbed up the ladder and become the president of Sri Lanka with relevent expierience in the field.SF Joined the forces and promoted time to time and became the Commander of the Army by completing and fufilling the requirment to be the leader of the ArMY.That does not mean that he can be a suceesfull politicain and MR cannot be a leader of the Army as well.If SF thinks that he can rule the country as he did in Army that his misunderstanding of the politics and you cannot comapare the politics with the forces which has rules, regulation, decipline Etc and all forces abide by those rules must be act accordingly ,but in the politics can we see any things like that,.Politicians do what ever the things and what ever they want to earn and strength them selves to keep the power and ( prime example is jumping one party to another by getting votes and elected from a nother party) Dear SF please dont couaght to bankcupt politicains and don´t jumped in to the politics and ruine your career and respect developed by serving in the Army and leading to end the country´s 30 years war.Don´t under estimate MR Capabilities and his popularity among the majority of country. We dont want to hear anything against you in political stages and throwing muds at you by some uneducated politicians in future. One this finaly i would say .. history will write the name of the MR as a person who defeat the LTTE and ruled the country under one flag (eksesath) after 30 years and not your name and your name will be written together with other commanders ( Army, Navy)and name of defence secretary in one line ,,,that is the truth.

Of course General Fonseka is a true hero. But what everybody should not forget is that MR made the initiative. Otherwise GF also could have been just nobody like other brave commanders we had in the past that we´ve never heard of. Next, what others should remember is there is a hidden devil behind this. That is if he becomes president, who will be the PM (in case of they win the PE)? Definitely that´s gonna be today´s best joker Ranil.

My comments not exactly related to the above topic. But i need to emphasize one thing as common for every country loving Sri Lankan.Gen Sarath Fonseka is great commander in chief and whole world knows.According to some military corners i heard that he and Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse the ones that totally initiated the strategies of the war and president was giving green light to those ideas. Now we are in a different situation, that all sri lankan are really confused and divided on this common candidate issue. All of you had done great job and service to our country in diferent fields and in difficult situation. As a example You as the Army commander you have handled the war in the front battle field, and on the other hand president taken all the presure from the western countries who supported LTTE openly. Then we all salute you what you have done. For the our sake of our country please dear president do not corner Gen Sarath Fonseka for any reason. Please talk to each other and resolve the matters in closed doors get rid of bad political agendas. The opposition and the LTTE sympathasiers waiting to disable the country from every corner like wild voltures.Dear president, Mr.Gotabaya Rajapakse, Gen Sarath Fonseka and fellow members in armed forces you all are our heroes, we never foget you in my life time or generation to come.I kindly request behalf of fallen and disabled soldiers who sacrificed their lives and fellow citizens who had lost their love ones to this bloody war in the last three decades, all of you must united and give a hand to develop the country where we just about to lift our selves.Thats how you can win hearts and minds of the people and remain on your feet and seats in the years to come.

Although the UNP and their coward allies have been issuing statement after statement trying to lure the General in to their trap, General Sarath Fonseka has not released any statement accepting or welcoming their offer. So, other than pointing out the negative and disastrous consequences to the country & to the general himself in an event that General accepts their offer, I believe we must not comment anything that would be detrimental to the good name of the General, as I believe that he is not the type of a person who would ally with the arch enemies & traitors of our motherland. By the way, please check whether last six digits of your phone number are 117833 because it is a wonder to have two people who got the same profile like yours. Definitely I will make my comments on what I consider important matters that affect my people and more interestingly I am doing the attitude tests to pick a good local outlet for our advertising purposes that are in the same wavelength. Take care and look after other interests of your life to keep the heart warm as we all spend too much time on the net.

As he cleaned up the corruption in the army, he will clean up the corruption and abuses in our political system, exploited heavily by current politicians. Whatever happened in the past is not the case, but creation of new disciplined political culture is essential for a brighter Sri Lanka. Every person who wish for a good future for the country must unite around him, shredding party politics.

It is foolish to assume the Good General hates himself so much so that he has chosen to join the same bunch of cretins who at onetime said the best place for him is at the Salvation Army!! They even said anyone could have done what the good General did!! So, according to them The General is not the MOST RESPECTABLE,INTELLIGENT UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL WE PERCEIVE HIM TO BE. If someone can honestly say these are not ´INSULTS´ that were thrown at him at that time, can the same person then please explain it to us as to what the heck you call all that? So now, why would someone of his stature would want to be seen a ´self hater´ by joining ranks with the same bunch of desperate political castaways that insulted him publicly in every way imaginable? This will make the much respected General the BIGGEST hypocrite of all time overnight!!! We have seen him very angrily branding the same bunch of cretins as traitors on national TV for god´s sake. So now, why would he be wanting to joining the same bunch of traitors and imply it to us that he was simply lying when he said what he said about them? Well, it is extremely doubtful he´d do something so stupid. Come to think of it them politically bankrupt bubble heads have been saying a zillion stupid things from time immemorial, however, we are yet to hear what the Good General has to say about everything what these imbeciles are talking about him in public all the time.

If SF enters into the Presidential race at this moment it is the biggest blunder imaginable !! He is a brilliant soldier no doubt but how could one join with the traitors to the country ? Even if any wrong was done to SF by the present government, for the sake of the country, he should still refrain from joining ranks with the traitors. All these developments, once again show, typical Sinhalese weaknesses that let down mother Lanka.
