Shooting kills naval petty officer, injures 2 at Mohottuwarama Navy Base

A petty officer of the Sri Lanka Navy has been killed in a shooting incident in a Navy Base in Kalpitiya, Media Spokesman of Sri Lanka Navy told Ada Derana.

Reportedly, another naval officer had opened fire in the Mohottuwarama Navy Base in Kalpitiya at around 12 midnight yesterday (28).

Two more officers of the Navy had sustained injuries in the shooting incident. One of the injured naval officers had been admitted to the Puttalam Hospital and the other has been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.

The sailor who opened fire had fled the scene and the reason behind the shooting is yet to be determined.

Sri Lanka Navy has launched further investigations into the shooting.
