357 arrested yesterday for violating quarantine regulations

A total of 357 persons have been arrested for violating quarantine regulations within yesterday (26), stated DIG Ajith Rohana.

Joining the TV Derana Breakfast Show ‘Derana Aruna’, the DIG stated the most number of arrests have been made in Colombo, Kalutara, and Negombo areas.

He stated that video footage obtained on the relevant charges will be submitted to the court as evidence.

The monitoring of quarantine and social distance violators will continue today (27) as well, added the DIG.

He further said certain shortcomings of the public transportation services were observed yesterday and that they are confident the shortcomings would have been addressed by now.

The curfew imposed on the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic was eased from yesterday (May 26) and the new curfew hours were set from 10 pm to 4 am daily in all districts.

However, the public is to strictly adhere to the guidelines prescribed by the health authorities to prevent the spread of the coronavirus during the operations of factories, institutes, offices, and shops as well as public transportation. These guidelines include disinfection, wearing face masks, frequent washing of hands, and maintenance of social distance.

Traveling between districts except in the two districts of Colombo and Gampaha was also permitted while the inter-provincial bus services also recommenced operations.
