Museums and archaeological sites to reopen for local tourists

Sri Lanka’s archeological sites, monuments, premises and museums coming under the Department of National Museum as well as the public reference division of the Department of National Archives, which were temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, will reopen for local tourists from July 01.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs M.K. Bandula Harischandra made this announcement in a press release.

As per the instructions of health authorities, the Department of Archaeology and the Central Cultural Fund will be implementing measures with regard to the healthcare of tourists visiting the archeological sites across the island while the Department of National Museum will take steps to safeguard visitors to museums.

Meanwhile the Department of National Archives will implement a programme for the safety of the people arriving at its premises.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs stated that the support of the general public will be expected for this purpose.
