Two children have been hospitalized in a minor explosion that occurred in the Madu area in Mannar, stated Ada Derana reporter.

Reportedly, the two boys had accompanied their grandmother to collect firewood in an area close to their home.

The duo had played with an object they found in the area which had subsequently exploded.

The injured siblings, aged 10 and 12 years, are residents of the Iranailluppaikulam area.

They have been admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital.

It is suspected that an explosive abandoned during the civil war had exploded in this manner.

Madu Police have launched investigations into the area.
