* Signage at Eye Hospital helps thousands each day

Following a request by the Director of the Colombo Eye Hospital Dr. Sisira Liyanage, Janashakthi Insurance PLC recently completed a project whereby over 100 signage boards were installed at vantage points of the Hospital.

Around 3,000 to 4,000 people come to the Colombo Eye Hospital every day. The absence of proper signage has been both confusing and of great inconvenience to these people, both patients and visitors.

Apart from the main Name Board of the Hospital, the new signage directs people to counters and wards and other important locations in a very methodical and easy-to-understand manner. Both patients and visitors have reacted positively with favourable comments all round.

Director of the Colombo Eye Hospital Dr. Liyanage thanked JIPLC for coming forward to facilitate the Hospital’s service levels with the installation of clear signage. “It has made movement within the hospital premises more organized, with patients and visitors spending far less time asking around. My staff and I are grateful to JIPLC for this very magnanimous gesture which tangibly benefits a few thousand people day in and day out”.

Nursing Officer (Health Education & Public Relations) Ms. Nadee Rajakaruna said that the requirement for such signage was there for a very long time but there was no one to take it on. “Janashakthi coming forward to help us out was a blessing. In the past, patients spent a great deal of time asking for directions. Getting around the Hospital has now been made much easier thanks to Janashakthi. It makes it more organised and very productive”.

Head of Marketing at Janashakthi Insurance PCL Paddy Weerasekara, “It gives us a profound sense of pleasure and satisfaction to be of assistance not only to the Hospital authorities, but also to the thousands of patients and visitors who converge at the Colombo Eye Hospital every day. We believe that the true hallmark of a responsible corporate citizen is giving back to society. This forms a pivotal part of our credo and we take pride in living it”.

In a similar manner JIPLC recently installed nearly 100 name boards on the main and sub roads in the Matale Townthus making vehicular and pedestrian movement smoother. Other projects include signage at the RMV in Narahenpita and St. Anthony’s Church in Wahakotte.

Janashakthi’s permanent Road Guide signs installed in Anuradhapura, Kataragama and Sella Kataragama last year enabled devotees to easily follow the correct route to reach their destinations. Complementing its social service endeavours, Janashakthi also contributed to environmental protection projects with several boards containing messages set up at vantage points in the Kataragama town during last year’s festival.

Janashakthi Insurance PLC which exercises its social responsibilities as a corporate entity has, over the years, funded programs for the safety of people at pedestrian crossings, Tsunami aid programs, safe bottle lamp projects, sports sponsorship including sports such as Athletics, Hockey, Cricket, Sailing, Golf, Squash etc and is one of the highest contributors to a number of sports in Sri Lanka.

Janashakthi spearheaded a Cycle Reflector Project which enabled cyclist to be easily detected during night time. The project was done in conjunction with the Traffic Police who highlighted the fact that most accidents happen during the night. Janashakthi gave more than 1,500 reflectors free to cyclists.

Good corporate governance has established the image of the company as a socially responsible entity delivering greater and consistent value to customers, employees, shareholders and the country at large during the 15 years of its service to the nation.
