Discussions are ongoing regarding a 15 to 20 per cent salary hike for the private sector employees, states the Government Information Department.

Discussions are being held with the Salaries Commission to provide the pay hike to the private sector employees, Commissioner General of Labour W.J.L.U. Wijayaweera has said.

The Government has called in 36 Salary & Wages Boards to discuss the issue and about half of them have agreed to a salary increase. A final decision on the private sector salary hike will be taken before the end of next month after consultations with the remaining Salaries Commissions.

The Government hopes to increase private sector salaries by the May 01, according to Mr. Wijayaweera. – (Govt. Information Dept.)
