Using mobile phones during thunder showers is considerably dangerous and the public should be advised, the Meteorologist-in-charge of the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department told Ada Derana. A lightening strike injuring 5 people suspected to have been caused due to a mobile phone was reported from Ukuwela yesterday.

MIC D.A. Jayasinghearachchi added that using a land line telephone is more dangerous due to the likelihood of a lightening strike.

Due to the Inter-monsoonal rains the Met Department has warned the public to take precautions against lightening that may be experienced during the period.

Jayasinghearachchi also stated that there is a high possibility of thunder showers after 3pm and public should avoid staying outdoors.
