After the upcoming general elections, which the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) says it is sure to win, the Cabinet will be limited to 35 Ministers, sources very close to the Government told Adaderana this morning.
The sources said that 28 names have already been earmarked for Ministerial posts and seven more are to be decided upon. Several serving Ministers, at least six, are to lose their portfolios in the forth coming Cabinet, it is reliably understood.
Further, the 35 Deputy Ministerial posts in the new Government are to be offered to the youth and new comers, according to the same sources.
A new feature will be certain Project Ministries apart from the 35 Ministries, time-bound to handle certain specified projects within a time frame. It is not certain whether these will enjoy Cabinet or Non-Cabinet rank.
It is also reliably learnt by Adaderana that the Prime Ministerial post in the future UPFA Government will be retained again by incumbent Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.
