April 10, 2010   08:03 pm

Puttalam district United National Party (UNP) candidate Palitha Range Bandara who was assaulted by a group of persons has been admitted to hospital with serious injuries this evening.

Four persons including a UNP Provincial Council member have been taken into custody. The assault was apparently over an intra-party rivalry, say Police.

Range Bandara was the UNP MP from the Puttalam district and contested last Thursday’s general elections where he was returned with the highest number of preferential votes in the district.
