Businessman in custody over Fonseka dollars gets bail

A businessman taken into custody in connection with the large sum of US dollars deposited in a safety locker in a private by General (retired) Sarath Fonseka’s son-in-law’s mother, was released on bail this morning (April 15).
A businessman who is also the owner of Solis Restaurants Group of Nawala, Sanjeewa Kumara, was granted bail by Mount Lavinia chief magistrate Harsha Sethunga on two sureties of Rupees one million each while impounding his passport. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) objected to the granting of bail.
Sanjeewa Kumara who is said to be a supporter of Gen. Fonseka is accused of having transported the US dollars from the retired General’s office to the private bank where it was recovered by the CID. The safety locker belonged to Gen. Fonseka’s son-in-law Danuna Tillekeratne’s mother.
