Nalini Case: Law must take its own course - Report

Vellore Jail is caught in yet another controversy after, Nalini an accused in the assassination of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was caught using a mobile from inside the jail and talking to her friends and relatives.
Nalini is accused No.1, Shriharan accused No. 2 and Peralivalan, accused No.3 are in jail for the last 19 years. Nalini got life sentence and the remaining two are on death sentence.
Nalini completed a MCA (Masters in Computer Application) from IGNOU.
It is a different case that the jailed prisoners are getting enough education and other entertainment for their life in jail. But this is a case of assassination of a national leader and keeping them in jail for 19 years is only a question mark after getting death row. But what about the controversy about the mobile phone caught from Nalini.
This issue raises questions regarding loopholes in the
security system in jail. Many calls have been made to Tamil Nadu area and there
are also calls made to the

During a routine check on 20th April, a bag was found and a Nokia mobile phone was found. Nalini suddenly snatched the phone from the officer and put it in the toilet. This case made a criminal offence against her and she was shifted from the A grade cell to a B grade cell. But still the battery charger was not seized by the jail officials. The Supreme Court confirmed the capital punishment, but the state government commuted death to life on April 24, 2000, allowing a clemency petition by Rajiv Gandhi’s widow Sonia. It concluded the crime was heinous.
She was associated with and harboured the prime accused of
hatching the conspiracy to assassinate Rajiv Gandhi and 18 others. It was

herself admitted that she met Nalini on March 19th 2008 .Why are there no
official records of this meeting? Most importantly, did Priyanka go to the jail
herself or was Nalini brought out of the
Nalini was given a “hang to death” order. But in the course
of time, Nalini gave birth to a child in the jail premises. And with this,
Sonia Gandhi pleaded the court to convert her punishment to life imprisonment.
According to the jail rules, none of the jail inmates are supposed to own any
sort of technological items and hence, they are cut off from the outside world
and now, who should be held guilty is still a question? Delaying the situation
and delaying the matter in court makes the matter more serious for national
security. For the safety of the nation, immediate actions have to be taken to
find a permanent solution. – (
