Second Court Martial held sans Fonseka, next session tomorrow – Military Spokesman
May 4, 2010 04:51 pm
When the second Court martial resumed sittings this morning (May 4) to hear charges against General (retired) Sarath Fonseka, he was not present for proceedings, says Military Media Spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe.
The Court Martial adjourned and directed the escorting officer to produce the respondent before the Court Martial at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday (05) for proceedings.
However, the tribunal maintained that no official intimation over General (retired) Sarath Fonseka’s absence for the proceedings has been formally made to the Court Martial.
All other administrative arrangements in connection with his participation in the proceedings had however been kept in place by the Army.
The second Court Martial is to sit again at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday (5).
