CHENNAI: A top-level committee will submit its report, “within the next two days,” on the complaints of Nalini, convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Law Minister Durai Murugan told the Assembly on Thursday.

Responding to C. Gnanasekharan (Congress), who wanted to know if there was any truth in the allegation that she was given poisoned food, Mr. Durai Murugan said that the government had appointed a three-member committee headed by Coimbatore DIG of Prisons Govindarajan and comprising Sekar (Vellore prison) and Allirani (Puzhal women’s prison).

He said that the committee had members from outside the prison where she was lodged to ensure impartiality since she had petitioned officials regarding some grievances and made some allegations.

The committee was formed on May 4.

Nalini had recently written to ADGP (Prisons) K.R. Shyamsundar alleging that her life was under threat. She had claimed that attempts were being made to poison her food. – (The Hindu)
