A petition seeking a special Indian flight for bringing mother of Prabhakaran, the late supremo of the Tamil separatist guerrillas, from Sri Lanka to Chennai for medical treatment is likely to come up before the Indian Supreme Court Friday.

Petitioner and Chennai-based lawyer R. Kuruppan is seeking direction to the central government to ensure ‘that no foreigner who comes with a valid Indian visa is subjected to forcible deportation’.

The petition assails the central government’s decision to deport Prabhakaran’s mother Parvathiammal upon her arrival at Chennai airport from Malaysia.

He claims that she was sent back to Malaysiadespite holding a valid visa issued by the Indian high commission in Malaysia.

Karuppan, a former president of Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHCAA), said that before leaving Indiain 2003 Parvathiammal had stayed in India for 15 years.

The petition said that the action of immigration officials at Chennai airport against her has hurt the feelings of socially conscious people.
