Disaster Management Centre issues landslide warning

May 17, 2010   01:56 pm

The Disaster Management Centre has issued a landslide warning in the Ratnapura, Kalutara and Galle Districts due to the continuing rains within next 48 hours.

Special attention has been emphasised for each AGA Division and areas of the following Districts:

Ratnapura District: Ratnapura, Pelmadulla, Kuruvita, Eheliyagoda, Kalawana, Kolonna and Elapatha AGA Divisions.

The Centre also states that due to the prevailing pre-monsoon conditions and low level disturbances in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, rain or thundershowers will continue in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces and will spread to the Central Province as well. Heavy rain falls are likely at most places.

Fairly strong winds also can be expected in the South Western region while the sea areas off the Southern and Western coats will be windy and likely to be rough.
