A large number of civilians are participating in religious ceremonies in the north and east to pay respects to those who died in the recent battles, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) member for Jaffna P. Ariyanenthiran told Adaderana this morning.

Mr. Ariyanenthiran said that similar religious observances were held yesterday too at Kokkadicholai and were being followed today in Batticaloa at the Mahamangeswaran temple and that the participants were clad in black as a mark of mourning.

However, when Adaderana contacted Resettlement Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitheran to confirm this, he said that there were hardly any civilians participating in these observances and that the civilians were engaged in their day to day activities.
