Basil Rajapaksa has pledged sustained and rapid action and the results of this endeavour had today translated to over 200,000 having been resettled with less than 30,000 residing on a continuous basis in the transit facilities. With the Government now being confident that by the end of the year all the residents in the transit facilities would have moved back to their original homes, the authorities were increasingly focusing in the North on ensuring a seamless transition from a humanitarian assistance phase to that of a development phase. Noting that the Government would be launching a three-year development plan with a budget of US Dollars 3 billion with active donor participation, and that for this purpose the President of the ADB would be visiting Sri Lanka next month, Dr. Jayasundera called on the EU to become partners in this process.
