Sri Lankan immigrant damages church statue in Italy

A 51-year-old Sri Lankan immigrant allegedly vandalised a statue of the Madonna and child, causing damages worth over 20,000 euro ($25,140), at a church in Italy.

 

The immigrant, who was not named, was drunk and allegedly seized a candlestick and repeatedly smashed the statue, a priest at the Santisssima Trinita’ church in Milan, said.

 

Police was called, who detained the man in the city’s San Vittore jail.

 

The immigrant has no permit of stay in Italy, police said.
