Sri Lanka Govt. needs to heal fissures in society: US State Department

The Mahinda Rajapaksa-led government returned to the parliament last month with a thumping majority, but concerns have been raised internationally that the country remains polarised a year after the LTTE’s rout.
“The new government has received a considerable mandate and needs to use that mandate to heal the existing fissures across the Sri Lankan society,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said at his daily press conference.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa was also re-elected earlier this year by a whopping mandate. - (PTI)
