Indian Customs officials have seized eight gold bars of 800
grams each worth Rs(India)
14.83 lakh from a Sri Lankan national who arrived in Chennai from Colombo. He had concealed
the contraband in his rectum.
Following a tip-off that gold was being smuggled, customs sleuths kept an eye
on passengers arriving from Colombo.
The Sri Lankan national was stopped on suspicion. On questioning, he confessed
to carrying gold, said a customs press release. He also said he was a carrier
and was smuggling the gold for cash.
