The United National Party (UNP) has appointed a three-member committee headed by Attorney-at-Law Asendra Siriwardena to probe the assault on Puttalam District Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara by another member of the same party, said General Secretary Tissa Attanayake.
Earlier, Palitha Range Bandara boycotted activities and later threatened to quit the UNP if no action was taken against another UNPer Shantha Abeysekara, whom Mr. Bandara has accused of being responsible for the assault.
UNP General Secretary Attanayake said that the party will act on the recommendation of the committee. However he had also said that Range Bandara had not lodged a written complaint to the party headquarters regarding the assault.
However, Palitha Range Bandara has told the media that since he was hospitalized for several weeks after the incident he had only lodged a verbal complaint as he was unable to do so in writing.
