RAMANATHAPURAM: The Coast Guard on Saturday apprehended five Sri Lankan fishermen for straying into Indian waters and seized a trawler with fishing gear.

Sources said an inshore patrol vessel of the Coast Guard took them into custody at 40 nautical miles off Nagapattinam. The fishermen were from Kankesanthurai area.

Though the fishermen claimed that their boat inadvertently sailed into the Indian waters, the authorities said they have to be interrogated thoroughly to verify their claim. – (The Hindu)
