People are complaining of the high prices of consumer items. The Opposition is exploiting the situation to its own advantage. But without complaining, if people could grow whatever food items like vegetables in their own garden, that alone will help to bring down the cost of living, said Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
Addressing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Bala Mandala meeting held this afternoon at the residence of former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle’s residence, Minister Sirisena said that as the former Agriculture Minister he understands the people’s hardships, especially regarding the cost of living. Even during his tenure as Agriculture Minister he had always encouraged home gardens through the ‘Api wawamu, rata nagamu’ programme.
If they grow whatever they could in their home gardens it will be fresh and also help in the day to day household expenses, Minister Sirisena added.
