Three days after Sri Lankan minister Douglas Devananda, who visited Indiaas a member of the presidential delegation, returned to the island-nation, the Madras HC has asked the government as to what steps had been taken on representations to arrest and prosecute him for cases pending in Tamil Nadu.

The bench also took note of a copy of the fax message sent by the Chennai city commissioner of police to his counterpart in New Delhi, on June 10. Narrating the cases registered against the minister, the letter said: “It is learnt that Douglas Devananda alias Anand alias Devanand is in New Delhi. This information is passed on to you for appropriate action as per law.”
