June 15, 2010   06:45 pm

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today directed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) a copy of the arrest warrant on a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Western Province for failing to arrest two suspects and produce them before courts.

The warrant had been issued on a DIG named only as Herath, for failing to carry out a court order and produce before courts two suspects accused of illegally sending persons abroad on the promise of securing employment.

Neither the suspects nor any reports regarding the suspects had been submitted to courts on the day the case was taken up. This constituted a grave neglect of duty, said Colombo Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

The Chief Magistrate, while issuing a warrant for the arrest of DIG Herath, ordered that a copy de sent to the IGP directing him to take steps to arrest the said DIG. Accordingly, steps were taken by court to deliver the copy of the arrest warrant to the IGP.
