Within the Soysapura Housing Scheme, 362 structures have been identified as unauthorized constructions. Nearly 200 of them have been marked as directly inconveniencing the public and they will be removed, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing & Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
During a visit to the Soysapura Housing Scheme this morning (June 19) the leader of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, Minister Weerawansa said till he remains in charge, he will not bow to dictates of higher ups or politicians in carrying out his duties.
He hopes to allocate funds from the 2011 budget to find solutions to housing problems faced by the majority. Finding solutions to housing problems have been hampered by the absence of the Public Utilities Board, said Wimal Weerawansa.
The Minister urged the dwellers of housing schemes to consider their residences as the property of the public even though they possess the deeds of their dwellings.
