Sri Lanka proposes SAARC police force

Sri Lankahas proposed for the established the of a SAARC police body to investigate the crimes in the South Asian region. The proposed SAARC police force will investigate international crimes in the region, control terrorism and to arrest wanted persons within the boundaries of the eight-nation grouping.

 

 

SAARC nations have also suggested formulating a common strategy to fight terrorism, drug smuggling and other across-border crimes. A technical committee of SAARC nations also proposed exchanging information about terrorist organizations to benefit all nations.

 

 

A technical committee of SAARC nations, which met in Islamabad ahead of the third three-day meeting of SAARC home ministers starting on Thursday, recommended the exchange of lists of terrorist organisations and persons and benefiting from each other’s experiences in the battle against extremism.

 

 

The panel also suggested intra-SAARC cooperation in enhancing efficiency of law-enforcement agencies, including police.
