Construction at Sigiriya at a halt

June 25, 2010   05:44 pm

The Archeological Department has issued an order to immediately stop all construction taking place in the area of the Sigiya archeological site. These steps have been taken after the villagers in the vicinity protested against the constructions that were being carried out.

It was only a few days back when three concerned villagers held a protest on top of the Sigiriya rock. Archeological Director General Prof. Senarath Disanayake, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Cultural Triangle officials came to this conclusion after they made a tour of the areas in concern.
