Twenty traders who had sold existing stocks of powdered milk at the new price contrary to the Trade Ministry directive have been arrested in the Colombo and Gampaha Districts, states the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA).

The traders had sold their stocks which they had purchased prior to the price hike at the new prices, states the CPA.

Meanwhile 40 traders were also taken into custody for selling underweight loaves of bread. They had allegedly sold a loaf of bread weighing 350 grams instead of the stipulated 450 grams. They are to be produced before courts, the CPA said.

More raids are being conducted to nab errant traders who do not follow the directives of the Trade Ministry, said officials of the CPA.
